Specialists

The elementary grades experience a variety of specialist instruction including music, physical education, technology, and library instruction. Specialists, trained in their specific areas of instruction, provide learning opportunities that will expand student imagination, stretch their physical limitations and develop their full potential.

Music Instruction

Students are exposed to a variety of music content throughout their schooling at St. Michael’s. They not only have the chance to exercise their voices but they also learn a variety of content information including composers, music composition, musical theory and instruments. Students perform two programs a year, one at Christmas and one in the spring for grandparents and special friends.

Students receive music instruction twice a week. Students in grades 3-5 are also part of the choir, which meets every week for 30-60 minutes.

Physical Education

Students are able to run, kick, jump, skip and learn sport skills through the Physical Education Specialist. They are able to work on gross motor skills as well as learn the value of being physically fit. Physical Education instruction is twice a week.

Library Instruction

Students visit our library once per week or as needed. The library is fully automated allowing the students to search the on-line card catalog to find books. Instruction is provided to help students to better understand how the library is organized and where to locate specific books.  Story time is part of the library visit for the younger children.

Technology Instruction

All K-5 students visit the computer lab at least once a week.  There is Smart Board technology in each K-5 classroom as well as computers for student use.
